University of Oxford, Science Area Masterplan
‘ttc’ were appointed by the University of Oxford as part of the multidisciplinary project team, led by the University, to prepare a Transport Assessment and design guidance to support planned improvements within the Science Area,
The project briefly comprised the closure of an existing two-way road, provision of a new one-way system, extensive improvement to the public realm to cater for the large number of pedestrians and cyclists accessing the area on a daily basis, the redesign of the access junctions from the public highway and a thorough and comprehensive study into the current flows within the Science Area, inclusive of delivery and servicing schedules, staff requirements, pedestrian and cyclists movements and the effect that closing the existing two-way road would have on the neighbouring local highway.
‘ttc’ liaised extensively with the Local Highway Authority and consulted with several key stakeholders, including a presentation to the Project Board members, made up of heads of departments, to ensure the development would be supported at the local level.
Following the approval of the planning application, ‘ttc’ were retained by the appointed contractor to prepare the Construction Traffic Management Plan and the construction designs for the proposed points of access onto the public highway, alongside design services for the internal arrangements being led by Gillespies LLP.
