Aggregate Industries
‘ttc’ were appointed by Aggregate Industries to provide an operational review of the transport and highways characteristics of their Hulland Ward Plant in Derbyshire.
The review included:
- Site Audit to determine existing characteristics.
- Traffic surveys to determine the existing vehicle flows both internally (operationally) and externally by vehicle type and by time of day over a typical 24-hour working period.
- Identification of vehicle routing through the site and hours of operation.
- Identification of potential conflict points and rights of way.
- Illustrated the impact on the internal and external operation of the site through the preparation of network diagrams and swept path analysis.
- Identification of a base case and worst-case scenario for the traffic movements based on the capacity of the site to process various chemicals and raw materials.
- Review of the accident logs and near misses logs to determine areas of safety concern.
- Outlined a set of recommendations regarding internal vehicle management of the site, an overarching safety strategy and a proposed scheme of improvements, including vehicle activated signage, internal road markings, crossing improvements and a clearer recording policy of near misses.
As part of the next stage of works ‘ttc’ will help the client implement the physical measures on the Local Highway Network by engaging with the Local Highway Authority (LHA), Derbyshire County Council (DCC).
